Why your non-profit should host a virtual event

Virtual Races are a great way to engage supporters in your cause. They offer a tremendous amount of flexibility for the participants and have been gaining popularity in recent years. Now with the COVID-19 pandemic, they are even more popular because they allow for appropriate social distancing.

What is a virtual race?

A virtual race does not have a specific location or start time. Instead, participants run in their own neighborhood or on a treadmill any time within a specified time period, often within a week or two. They register online for an event, choose the distance, and pay their fee. When a participant has completed their run, they upload their finish time so that they are still recognized for their accomplishment. Most of the time, the uploaded results are based on the honor system, but ITS YOUR RACE provides a free mobile app that tracks each participant's run using GPS tracking. Any event swag, such as a t-shirt, wristband, medal, or race bib, will be mailed to the participant.

How can a virtual race benefit your organization?

Hosting a virtual race gives your organization the opportunity to raise more donations.

ITS YOUR RACE will work with your organization to set up a Virtual 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. You will receive your own event website, access to ITS YOUR RACE's technology, and participants will be able to download and use the free virtual run app. Registration is set at $30 (plus processing fees) and your organization will receive $10 from each registrant. Each participant will also receive a Be The Good t-shirt with your organization's logo.

Our Be The Good Virtual Race Program is free of charge to non-profit organizations. In order to maximize participation and increase donations we just ask that you consistently promote your event to your community of donors, supporters, and volunteers.

Additional perks of a virtual race:

It's Convenient: No race day logistics needed! Choose a run time frame and participants can run or walk on their own watch using our free virtual run app. Participants can pick a route that they're familiar with, while keeping their distance from others.

Engages supporters in fitness: These are difficult times for everyone. Some of us may be feeling especially stir crazy being inside all the time. Allowing participants to sign up for a virtual race will give them motivation and also a purpose because they're helping to support your cause.

Keeps you connected: It’s essential right now to stay in touch with your supporters, donors and volunteers. Hosting a virtual event will keep your organization fresh in the mind of those who support you.

Maximizes your impact: Not only will you be reaching out to those who already know and support your organization, but also people who may not yet know who you are. Someone who hears about your virtual race that lives hundreds of miles away can still sign up and partake in your event.

Additional Fundraising Opportunities: Participants can start their own fundraisers and encourage their friends and family to donate. 100% of these donations go directly to your organization.

Are you ready to get your feet wet and consider a virtual event as an upcoming fundraiser for your organization? We're here to help guide you each step of the way.
